TOUR INFORMATION LARES TREKS TO MACHUPICCHU

How long is Lares Trek 4 Days?

The Lares Trek is 33 km long and at a distance from the campsites used, the approximate walking hours per day are

Day 1: 5 hours
Day 2: 8 hours
Day 3: 4 hours

Is the Lares trek hard?

The Lares Trek 4 days 3 nights is considered a moderate trek. It is not a technical hike, but the altitude may affect some people. We recommend buying a cane during your stay in Peru, as it can help with balance and reduce the load on your knees. We ask that you do not use a metal-tipped cane, as it can damage the fragile environment of the trail.

Is altitude sickness common? And how high is the Lares Trek 4 Days?

It is difficult to predict who will be affected by the altitude. Most people have no problem as long as they take the time to acclimatize properly. A full day in Cuzco at 3249m will be enough, plus drinking lots of water is usually enough for most people.

What is elevation of Machu Picchu?

The highest point on the Lares Trek is 4550 meters. You will sleep at 3600 meters for one or two nights.

How difficult is the Lares Trek 4 Days?

Difficulty level: Moderate
Maximum Altitude: 3900m
Minimum Altitude: 3100m
Distance travelled: 7KM
Approximate walking Time: 5-7 hours

How long will we be in Machupicchu?

We will arrive at Machu Picchu on the morning of the fourth day. Our tour will guide you for 2 hours through the ruins. Then we will have free time to explore the area on your own before we return to Aguas Calientes, where we will take the train back to Cuzco.

Do the porters carry our luggage?

No, the llamas, pack mules and/or horses will carry your personal items. However, you should bring a backpack for only the essentials, such as water, snacks, camera, sweater, raincoat, etc.

How cold is it on Lares Trek 4 Days (will I have to bring hats and gloves)?

Due to the high altitude it can get quite cold, especially during the Andean winter (May to September), when the temperature can drop to zero degrees (centigrade) at night. It can still be cold at other times of the year, so we recommend that you bring thermal underwear and a warm sleeping bag. You can buy warm, inexpensive, locally made hats, gloves and hand-woven fabrics in Cuzco.

What type of accommodation is used on Lares Trek 4 Days?
The first night of the trek to Lares, we stayed at a community camp established by the community of Accopata that has composting toilets, solar showers and a solid waste management system that is the first of its kind in the region. On the second night, we spend the night in three-person tents designed to accommodate two same-sex travelers. Hikers will be served a bowl of hot water (and a hot drink) in their tents during the morning hours. On the third night, we will stay in a simple hotel in Aguas Calientes.

Does it include a sleeping bag and mattress on Lares Trek 4 Days?
They are not included, we recommend carrying a compact three season sleeping bag. If you are travelling between May and October, we recommend a 4 season sleeping bag. You can rent it from our office. For approximately $20 for the duration of the walk. Foam mats are provided, however, some travelers also bring their own self-inflating mat (i.e. a Thermarest).

Is there purified water available on the Lares Trek 4 Days?
Yes, you can, but we recommend that you buy water or rehydration drinks from the local people, as this is a way of being able to support them.

Of course, we offer boiled water every morning so you can drink it during the day.

How is the food at the Lares Trek 4 Days?
Our Chefs prepare excellent food suitable for the nature walk. The menu usually includes pasta, rice, chicken, fresh fruits and vegetables and a variety of oatmeal, eggs and other breakfast foods. We have vegetarian alternatives according to your request.

Since the number of permits is limited to 250 per day (around 200 tourists and 50 trekking staff members) it is important to book in advance, especially in the high season from May to September. In the low season between December and January, it is possible to get a ticket for about 30 days in advance.

The Lares Trek Valley offers a combination of breathtaking landscapes, traditional cultures, Inca Trail and Machu Picchu. On the 4th day, the walk will take you through breathtaking mountain scenery, overpasses, and you will spend two nights near the traditional villages of Peru.

The Inca Trail is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful trails in America and, therefore, an unforgettable experience not to be missed.

The trail takes us through the protected wilderness of the Peruvian jungle and forest-steppe, passes several Inca archaeological sites and offers breathtaking views.

The Incas used this pilgrimage itinerary to the sacred city of Machu Picchu.

Altitude: 2850 – 4400 m. / 9350 – 14436 f.
High season: All year round
Duration: 4 days / 3 nights
Degree of difficulty: Moderate

Recommendation the Lares Trek 4 Days :
It is necessary to acclimatize in Cusco, two days before starting this tour. For good acclimatization it is necessary to rest as much as possible, to eat little, to drink abundant liquid; especially the mate of coca that possesses known healing and digestive properties. Adequate acclimatization avoids that it affects the «soroche» or bad of height, that could cause numerous annoyances to the health. (Lares trek to Machu Picchu)

Lares Trek Location
Lares is a valley that is very close to the city of Cusco, is home to people who weave and cultivate the land, live their lifestyle in a traditional way and also speak Quechua and Spanish, their weaving is done manually, both to weave and cultivate use tools that were used by the Incas.

Alternative to the Classic Inca Trail
This Lares Trek to Machu Picchu is one of the main alternatives to the Inca Trail and to the Salkantay Trek because it is shorter and quieter, in addition, it is not necessary special permissions to make this walk, it is also quieter than the Inca Trail and that we also offer for you.

Located in a remote and little-visited region, it offers the hiker a vision of a different traditional Andean life; a world frozen in time where farmers plant their crops on the land from their ancestors, in addition to raising their herds of llamas and alpacas under the sacred snowy peaks they worshipped as gods.

Today this trek is still used by farmers, who are descendants of the Incas. The trail connects the communities of Cuncani, Huacahuasi, Quisuarani, Patacancha and Lares in the Sacred Valley. On the third day, we will take the afternoon train to Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes), having a full day to explore the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu the next day.
