Day 1

Itinerary The Sillar Route
08:00 am – 08:30 am – In this period of time we make the pick-ups of the hotels that are located in the center of Arequipa.
08:30 am – We begin our journey towards the Sillar Route which is a tourist route with a lot of history and live culture, where quarries and areas where the sillar originated are visited.
The first point we will stop at will be the Añashuayco Quarry; which we will arrive in 45 minutes approx. At the moment it is working, very early the quarrymen make their daily works; we will enjoy an impressive view of a canyon of cliffs (walls of ignimbrite) with has several meters deep, caused by the exploitation and different shapes of the ashlars. In this place we will tell you all the history of the ashlar, how it is made and how it is useful in the life of the villagers.

In the quarry there is a large church called the Company of Jesus, which was built by the local stonemasons. We can visit some of the stonemasons and they will tell us about their daily life in the quarry and show us how to cut large blocks of stone ourselves.

Then we will go to the Quebrada Culebrillas, which is located 30 minutes from the area of Añashuayco.Arriving at the area, we will hike for about 20 minutes through a small canyon formed by the passage of water, that has walls of 15 to 20 meters high, the closer we get to the bottom, the higher the walls get on the way. At the end of the walk we can observe petroglyphs with descendants of the Wari culture more than a thousand years ago. Before returning to the city of Arequipa we can see stone formations placed one on top of the other called Apachetas, which are a symbol of gratitude towards nature and also attraction of good luck which cause a mystical sensation.

11:30 am – We will begin the return trip to the city of Arequipa.
12:30 pm – We will arrive at the center of Arequipa and leave them very close to the main square
