If you’re planning a trip to Machu Picchu, and want to get there from Lima, here’s how:
-Take a taxi from the airport to Lima center. There are a few options available, and prices will vary depending on the time of day and your destination. You can also book the taxi in advance through your hotel, or arrange transport directly through your airline. -Once in Lima city center, catch the Transoceanic train to the Poroy station. A one-way ticket costs about $5 USD, and it will take you about an hour to get to the train station. At the train station, you will have to buy an additional ticket to get to Aguas Calientes. This will cost around $12 USD each way. The trip takes approximately 2 hours, and you will arrive in the town of Aguas Calientes. -You can then take a local bus up the mountain for $3 USD per person. Alternatively, you can also hire a private driver to take you to the top. -From Aguas Calientes, you can catch the train back to the city of Cusco, or walk back down the mountain if you want to avoid the crowds.
The climb can take anywhere from 6-8 hours, depending on your fitness level, and the weather on the day you are climbing.
